"I joined the Voice House about 4 months ago and the welcome was warm from the start. Existing members make a real effort to make sure newcomers are introduced, and can choose where they feel best able to sing. Music varies widely, from soft Scottish lullabies to energetic African choruses, to familiar popular tunes, all ably directed by Yvonne, who is encouraging of all abilities. For me it’s now an important moment in the week, two hours of joy with others who simply enjoy making music together. I highly recommend it!" - Elizabeth S (Jan '24).
“Some months ago a friend asked if I was interested in joining her choir as they were in need of more male singers. I listen to music a lot and sing along at home but had not sung with others since school – many years ago! She said that there were no auditions and no musical knowledge required. All standards were welcome and the weekly rehearsals were very enjoyable.
After thinking about it for a while I went along to a free taster session and found everyone to be very friendly. It was quite an informal evening with a wide variety of songs to sing. Four or five were sung and rehearsed in subsequent weeks. I really enjoyed it and have been going along to the weekly sessions ever since.
After just a few weeks I was asked if I would like to sing with the Choir at an event at the Eric Liddell Centre when the Christmas lights were being switched on. I thought it was a bit early for me but said yes and am glad that I did. Quite a number of people turned up to listen and it was very satisfying to be part of a successful event. I would recommend the Voice House Community Choir to anyone who is interested in singing in a friendly setting.” - Douglas H (Feb '24)
"When I went to this year's Christmas party, I realised that I had been attending Voice House for a whole year already! It's so enjoyable that the time has just flown by.
Each session begins with the same, beautiful, harmonic song. This takes you away from your day and into the moment. A mixture of songs are then led by Yvonne and taught by her, with the encouragement sometimes to add your own harmonies (not as frightening as you might think) and the session ends, often, with a Taize (a very contemplative song), which is calming and meditative. The silence as this comes to a conclusion is lovely. Then it is time to join the real world again. Yvonne is an energetic and inspirational leader. She creates not just a 'sing' but an enjoyable and absorbing event each Wednesday" - Ann A (Jan '26)
